TREBAS INSTITUTE STUDENTS NOMINATED FOR 7 GRAMMY AWARDS

Posted on February 10th, 2012 - Written by: Trebas Toronto

It is highly unusual for a college, even one specializing in digital media and recording arts, to claim that their graduates have been nominated for the coveted Grammy Award. It is even more unlikely for a former student to win a Grammy. However, one such college, Trebas Institute, with campuses in Montreal and Toronto, has graduates who have won over a dozen Grammy Awards over the years, since they started offering accredited academic programs in Audio Engineering & Music Production, Sound Design, Film & Television Production, Entertainment Management, and Event & Venue Management, in 1979.

On February 12 this year, the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences hosts the music industry’s most important night of the year, the annual Grammy Awards show.   Three former students from Trebas Institute share seven Grammy-Award nominated recordings for the upcoming Grammy event, including the coveted “Album of the Year”.

The album “Loud”, nominated for “Album of the Year”, by recording artist Rihanna and featuring Drake, Eminem, and Nicki Minaj was recorded, engineered, and mixed by former Trebas Institute Audio Production student,  Noah “40” Shebib. “Moment 4 Life” featuring Drake and Nicki Minaj from the album “Pink Friday” is nominated for “Best Rap Performance”, engineered and mixed by Noah “40” Shebib.

“What’s My Name?” from the album “Loud”, sung by Rihanna and Drake, is nominated for a Grammy in the category “Best Rap/Sung Collaboration” engineered and mixed by Noah “40” Shebib.   “Best Rap Album” category has two nominations engineered and mixed by Noah Shebib: “Tha Carter IV” album featuring Lil Wayne and “Pink Friday” album featuring Nicki Minaj.

David Mustaine, lead guitarist and vocalist with the band “Megadeth, was a student at Trebas Institute many years ago and his band’s recording of “Public Enemy No. 1” from the album “Thirt3en” is nominated for “Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance”.

“Low Country Blues” featuring Gregg Allman is nominated as “Best Blues Album”, engineered and mixed by eight-time Grammy Award winning Trebas graduate, Michael Piersante. Michael won three more Grammy Awards in 2009 including “Album of the Year” and “Record of the Year” for Robert Plant and Alison Krauss’ “Raising Sand” album.  He recently completed engineering/mixing albums for Elton John, Willie Nelson, Elvis Costello, and John Mellancamp.  This could be his ninth Grammy.

Michael is partners with the legendary record producer, T. Bone Burnett, who has produced the likes of Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash as well as the above mentioned artists. “The education and contacts I received at Trebas Institute changed my life”, says Michael Piersante. Michael also recorded/mixed the music for films including “Cold Mountain”, “Crazy Heart”, “Walk The Line”, “Happy Feet”, and “Across The Universe”.

“One of the reasons for our students’ success is the practical curriculum of courses offered that are designed with competencies matching the industry’s job requirements,” says David P. Leonard, President and Founder of Trebas Institute and Past President of the American Music & Entertainment Industry Educators Association. “In addition, our instructors are currently working professionals in the industry with outstanding credentials including Emmy Awards among others,” says Leonard.

“There is nothing that makes me more proud than to hear about our students successes in the music, film, and television production industries,” says Leonard. “We encourage our students to strive for excellence in everything they do. This helps them to rise to higher levels of achievement in the real world of work. In one year of intensive studies, students acquire the knowledge, skills and professionalism necessary for entry level positions in their chosen industry.  The college’s internship program and job placement service certainly help the students find their niche.”

Trebas Institute is one of approximately 1,500 private career colleges teaching over 200,000 students across Canada annually, in preparation for a variety of careers.
